Foundations do not accept enthusiasm as payment

Log Entry #10 · Development Day 1310Permits & Plot Twists · January 10, 2026

Skid-steer beside piles of sand and crushed stone brought in for foundation work

Good news: the views are exactly what we hoped for. Less-good news: engineered foundations, it turns out, do not accept enthusiasm as payment.

Building on a river means building with the river, not against it. After flood certification came back, the plan is to lift the cabins onto piers, keeping living space above the floodplain and turning the ground beneath into shaded outdoor rooms. It is more engineering, more patience, and a better building for it.

The river was here long before us and will be here long after. The least we can do is design like we know that.

Follow the plot twists.
